a bride, a groom, a photographer and a 16 year old walk briskly into a courthouse…
The morning started at Blue Bottle Coffee. Just as it had on October 16th, 3 years ago. Except this time we were in LA and we drove together.
Our wedding day had only a few important elements. A flower delivery. A hair/makeup artist. A photographer.
And our one “guest”, who took a half day off from high school to carry flowers, be present with us and sign a legal document. We are forever grateful.
We got ready together at our home for the week; a lushly landscaped Bel-Air estate. It would have been nice for the sun to come out, but we didn’t need it. The air was calm. Shortly after arriving at the Beverly Hills courthouse we met Deputy Comissioner Marjorie Harris. She smelled the lily of the valley bouquet on our way in and out. She said no one had ever brought them before. We were also her last ceremony appointment of the day, due to our lateness. There were some tears, some fighting back tears and lots of laughter before, during and after. We had planned to slip Marjorie an alternate script, but in The End she said everything we wanted and more, including
“I Now Pronounce You Married.”
